To disseminate the EDEN (Emerging Diseases in a changing European eNvironment) scientific outputs more widely we publish here the abstracts of the papers published using, at least partly, EDEN funds. All EDEN teams are encouraged to publish their results in international peer reviewed papers. Prior to submission it is asked to the authors to send their draft to the EDEN secretary of the steering committee (SC) (ghendrickx@avia-gis.be). The EDEN Steering Comittee then rapidly (within 48 hours) accepts it as an EDEN publication by giving it an official EDEN publication number. The authors are kindly requested to include the following sentence in the “Acknowledgement” part of the paper: "This publication was partially funded by EU grant GOCE-2003-010284 EDEN and is catalogued by the EDEN Steering Committee as EDEN00xx (www.eden-fp6project.net). The contents of this publication are the sole responsibility of the authors and don't necessarily reflect the views of the European Commission."

Only papers including this sentence will be recognized by the European Commission as EDEN outputs. Requests for reprints should be directed to the corresponding authors (see e-mail addresses included). Once accepted the authors are asked to send a PDF copy of the final paper.
